Is the TM6 to TM7 Upgrade Really Worth It? My Honest Review After 12 Years With Thermomix®
RM
wantI get this question constantly right now: is upgrading from the TM6 to the TM7 actually worth it, or is it mostly a prettier appliance with a bigger price tag?
I am in a good position to answer that. I have owned three generations of Thermomix®, the TM5, then the TM6, and now I am three months into the TM7—twelve years in total. And my answer might surprise you.
I loved my TM6. Over the years, it has never let me down, and I have built hundreds of meals and dozens of Cookidoo recipes around it. Going into the TM7, I honestly expected nothing more than a shinier version of the same appliance.

What is a Thermomix?
The Thermomix is a versatile kitchen appliance that can perform a wide range of cooking tasks. It can chop, blend, weigh, steam, whisk, and even knead dough, all at the touch of a button. This multifunctionality is a game-changer for home cooks looking to save time and space in the kitchen.
Core Features of the Thermomix
Three months in, here is what I have genuinely noticed, simply my personal take:
- It is remarkably quieter. I did not realize how loud my TM6 was until I started using the TM7. Cooking no longer announces itself through the whole house.
- The 10 inch touchscreen is fantastic. Larger, responsive, and replacing the manual dial with touch controls makes the whole experience feel modern. No waiting on menus, no double tapping, just smooth and intuitive.
- The new lid design is a big improvement. No more bulky locking arms. The automatic locking system looks cleaner, wipes down easily, and the whole appliance feels more premium.
- The bigger Varoma is a bigger deal than I expected. Around 45% more steaming capacity, which has been wonderful for batch cooking and for prepping ahead of Cooking Experiences.
- The insulated bowl is brilliant. It is a little heavier than the TM6 bowl, but being able to comfortably hold it right after cooking is something I did not know I needed.
- Open Cooking has become one of my favorite features. Perfect for reducing sauces, cooking pasta style dishes, browning, or simply keeping an eye on things without stopping the appliance.
- It is so much easier to clean. Between the redesigned lid and the smoother overall shape, cleanup feels quicker every time.
- The retractable power cord deserves a mention. Such a small detail, but pulling out only the length you need keeps the counter tidy and makes the whole thing feel even more premium.
- It simply looks beautiful. The new design, color, and cleaner lines make it an appliance I am happy to leave out on the counter.

Would I recommend someone with a perfectly good TM6 upgrade? Honestly, yes.
If you have had your TM6 for a year or so and you love it, you are in a wonderful spot already and can enjoy it for years to come. But if you have had yours for a few years like I had mine, and especially while the current trade-in offer is running, I think the TM7 is genuinely worth a serious look.
Going from a TM6 to a TM7 impressed me this much. Coming from a TM5 or a TM31, I can only imagine how much bigger that jump feels, like skipping several generations overnight.
A little spoiler: I noticed something interesting on the new mixing bowl design. The base has 6 receiver points, but currently only 5 are active. I have a hunch Thermomix is not finished innovating with the TM7 yet, and that a future upgrade may be exclusive to TM7 owners. I cannot say for certain, but it feels worth knowing as you weigh whether to wait or move now.
As someone who cooks almost daily and creates my own Cookidoo recipes, the TM7 has not changed what I cook. It has changed how much I enjoy cooking.
